Las Vegas CES 2018: Paris Region Hub for Innovation

Valérie Pécresse, President of Paris Region, went to the CES in Las Vegas on Jan. 10th, where a new space has been dedicated to smart cities. On this occasion, the President promoted the regional innovation policy implemented over the last two years and presented the new Smart Region Initiative program.

Paris Region is participating in this event via Paris Region Enterprises (PRE), its agency in charge of attractiveness and economic development, which brought together for the first time during this CES all economic players from the Paris Region – major groups, startups, incubators and R&D laboratories – to enhance the Paris Region’s innovation, digital and deep tech ecosystem under the “Paris Region Hub for Innovation” banner.

Three new measures were presented to support innovation and attract new businesses to the Paris Region.

Paris Region Starter Pack: a new financial solution for international companies in the Paris Region

This new measure is for all startups or Fast Growing Tech Companies of 5 to 250 employees with a turnover of up to $50 million which have decided to set up or to create a subsidiary in the Paris Region. Its objective is to help foreign technology companies set up shop and benefit from services adapted to their implementation project.
Financial aid of up to 250,000 euros will support development projects with a duration of more than three years. To qualify for the Paris Region Starter Pack, companies must present a three-year growth strategy plan, a financial plan, a potential for job opportunities plan, and a development plan in France contributing to the development of the Paris Region.
This financial aid will enable them to finance tangible and intangible investments, recruitment, strategic consulting services, international development, patent filing and
extension, optimization of the value chain (quality, performance design, management, etc.), or digital and ecological transformation.
The Paris Region Enterprises teams are organized to accelerate the assistance and instruction process.

Innov up Proto: support for prototype development opens to foreign startups

For the first time the Innov’up Proto call for projects, which aims to support the production of innovation prototypes by young innovative companies, will be open to startups and foreign fast growing tech companies wishing to set up in Paris Region. In addition to financial support, the laureates receive support from Cap Digital, a regional competitiveness cluster.
The call for projects will be launched in the spring of 2018 and will allow 10 to 15 winners to receive a maximum of 100,000 euros in financial support and to exhibit their prototype at the Paris Region Smart Events in May 2019 (Vivatechnology, FUTURES). Each year the call for projects is dedicated to one or more key technologies. In 2018, the call for projects will have a minimum of 1 million euros and will focus on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics technologies.

« IA 2018 PARIS REGION »: the first International Challenge for start-ups launched by the Paris Region and endowed with € 1 million

This exceptional contribution of 1.2 million US dollars (1 million euros) is part of the new attractiveness strategy of the Paris Region and reflects its determination in the development of Artificial Intelligence. It is aimed both at businesses in Paris Region but also to all businesses that wish to set up in Paris Region

This unprecedented challenge illustrates a global ambition in the artificial intelligence domains of the entire Paris Region ecosystem, in particular in the fields of mobility and industry 4.0 (infrastructure, applications, platform). It complements the strong involvement of the Region in the Digihall project, a project to create an international reference center on digital and artificial intelligence in Paris-Saclay.

This contest will be launched in spring 2018; a jury of leading experts will designate the winner(s) by September 2018

The importance of this measure, in light of the results of an international survey conducted by Wavestone with more than 100 investors, is important to better understand the passion around Deep Tech, solutions based on disruptive technologies, which shows that France occupies a lead position. France – and the Paris Region, which concentrates most of these technologies – is recognized for its undeniable advantages in artificial intelligence, bio technologies and connected objects.
